RE: IMMEDIATE change in the storage of student files
The Erie Community Unit School District (ECUSD) has switched to Google Drive for storing student files instead of backing the files up to our local district server. This change will provide faster and more reliable access to students files. Using Google Drive will also allow the students to access their files 24/7 on any internet capable device. Internet at home is not required when using a school issued computer.
In the event that you need to access your files from a non school issued computer, internet is required using your school issued email address.
ECUSD RESPONSIBILITY: each student laptop will have the Google Drive application installed by a staff member. Instructions will be given by paper after the installation is complete and in the school provided e-mail to students on moving their present files to Google Drive. Each student is being allocated 30GB of space at Google for this purpose.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY: the student will store any and all future files to Google Drive and use it appropriately. REMEMBER- any files not stored in Google Drive will be lost in the event of a crashed hard drive.
TECHNICAL DETAILS: the school district and any of its employees including the IT department will no longer be responsible for locating, and recovering any lost files.
