Seven Erie singers participated in the Forty-Third Annual Illinois Music Educators Association District 8 Music Festival on Saturday, November 22, 2014 in DeKalb. The students were selected to the festival based on auditions that were held in October. The festival includes middle school and high school students from schools in District 8, which covers the northwest portion of the state of Illinois.
The students participated in the Junior Treble Choir, Junior Mixed Choir, or Senior Choir depending on their audition, and rehearsed throughout the day under the direction of a guest conductor. The festival concluded with a concert featuring the various groups. This year’s guest conductors for the middle school ensembles were Mrs. Lynda Marshall, a choir director from Edwardsville High School and Mr. Tim Havis, also a choir director from Edwardsville High School. The guest conductor for the Senior Chorus was Dr. Allen Hightower, a professor of Music at Luther College in Decorah, IA.
The students worked very hard throughout the day, and friends and family were able to see an excellent concert including the finest singers Erie Community Unit School District has to offer.
