High School Highlights
Erie Middle and High School musicians worked hard all first semester preparing for their annual Winter Concert. The concert took place on Sunday, December 8 at 2pm.
The first half of the concert involved musicians in grades 5-8. The 5th Grade Choir sang “Jingle, Jingle Swing!” and “Corky, the Porky Reindeer,” and oh boy, did they have some fun with that one! Next, the 6th Grade Choir sang “Come on and Follow the Star,” “The Best Gift of All,” and “A Holiday Road of Carols.” The 7th and 8th Grade Choir performed “Who’s that Baby?” and “My Grown-Up Christmas List,” that featured 8th Grade student, Hannah Huisman as a soloist. They ended on a super fun note while singing “My True Love Gave To Me (What to do with the presents?)” all while they sparkled and flashed their 5 golden rings at the audience.
The 5th Grade Band made their musical debut with “Jingle Bells” and “Up On the Housetop”. Pretty impressive, considering they have only been playing their instruments for 3 months!! Then the 6-7-8 grade band took over with “Deck the Halls with Rock and Roll”, “Spirit of the Bells” and finished their portion of the concert with “A Minor Holiday Celebration”.
The second half of the concert involved musicians in grades 9-12. The High School Band performed “Let It Snow, Let It Snow”, “Christmas is Coming” and finished with “Swingin Bell Carol” Great concert by all.
The High School Choir sang, “Mary Sat a Rockin,” “In the Stillness of Winter,“ and Plaudite Manibus (Clap Your Hands).” Our Grand Finale was Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” We have been working on that piece for two years, and our hard work definitely paid off with that one! To say that Mrs. Leihsing is proud of her students would be a HUGE understatement!
Upcoming performances for these groups include the following dates:
Tuesday, March 3 - High School Band and Choir Recital
Tuesday, March 10 - 7/8th Grade Band and Choir Pre-Contest Recital
Saturday, March 14 - 7/8th Grade Band and Choir Contest in Morrison
Tuesday, April 21 - 78th Grade Tri-County Band and Choir Honor Festival
Sunday, May 3 - Middle and High School Spring Art Show
We look forward to what the rest of the year brings with these wonderful young musicians!
