8th Grade Springfield Trip Info
On THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18th, the eighth grade class will be taking a field trip to the Springfield area. Five middle school teachers will be supervising the trip. We will be traveling by charter bus.
Parents/Guardians will need to provide transportation for students both to and from school on that day. We will depart from the middle school promptly at 6:30 a.m. and plan to arrive home at approximately 6:15 p.m. Students will need to arrive a few minutes early to board the buses. We have a time schedule to maintain and the bus will not be able to wait for anyone that does not arrive on time. Please do NOT arrive before 6:15 a.m.
We strongly urge that students eat breakfast at home, as there is a food restriction on the bus. Water bottles, cereal bars and sandwiches are permitted. No milk products or food in small pieces, such as chips, crackers, Skittles, etc. are allowed. Cell phone use will be limited throughout the day; however, students will be able to call home with an approximate arrival time in the evening. See the electronics and cell phone policy below for additional information.
While in Springfield, we will visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Lincoln’s Tomb, and New Salem State Park. Lunch will be a pizza and pasta buffet at a local restaurant.
Students may want to bring money on the day of the trip for any souvenirs that they wish to purchase; all other expenses, including lunch, will be covered by the school district.
It is our wish that the trip be both educational and enjoyable for our students. We caution students that the places we will be visiting requires them to be well-mannered and respectful.
Parents who do not want their children to attend this trip should contact the Erie Middle School office. This is a required attendance day for students regardless of whether they accompany the class on the trip.
Electronics Policy: Students may not bring a school issued iPad on the field trip. Personal electronics such as iPods, iPads, gaming systems, or other such devices are allowed. The district is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items.
Cell Phone Use: All cell phones must be on silent during the day.
Cell phones may be used for: pictures at sites where allowed, music, games and note-taking. Cell phones may not be used for: texting, social media sites, pictures on the bus, videos, internet searches or anything that a staff member determines violates appropriate use. Phone calls may only be made to the parents at the end of the trip to notify them of their return time.
