NHS Aiming to Help in Our Community

Bags Tournament: Do you have a good arm? Do you like to throw things or even feel like throwing something? If you answered yes, the National Honor Society of EHS would like to invite all ages to come out and participate in a bags (corn hole) tournament to benefit the local Erie Food Pantry. This event will be in the EHS gym on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The entry fee of $10 for a team of two will benefit the local Erie Food Pantry. To enter the tournament, please contact Josh Hammer, NHS president, or the adviser by Nov. 7. Mrs. Proeger can also be reached at 309-659-2239 (x1416). Plans are also being made to have a small concession stand available. There will also be a $30 gift for the winning team.

The entry fee of $10 will help the Food Pantry stock their shelves with far more in food they can purchase from the local food bank compared to each of us purchasing and donating $10 worth of food.

Winter Apparel: NHS is collecting gently used or new winter apparel the week of Nov. 5 - 9. We are looking to help others who are homeless or displaced from their homes. Please send any coats, jackets, sweatshirts, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, and socks to EHS. All ages and sizes are being collected for distribution. Each high school grade is also having a class competition with the winning class to receive an ice cream sundae party.

Dance Marathon: The Erie Middle and High Schools, together with the PLT Middle and High Schools are actively planning for a Dance Marathon on Friday, Nov. 16. The events will be in the Annex with the middle school event from 5-8 p.m. and the high school event from 8:30-11:30 p.m. There are informational signs up in each building. In addition, there was information in last weeks Review, and it will soon be on the district website. You may contact the following individuals: Mrs. Amy Achs, MS Student Council Adviser, Mrs. Barbara Proeger, HS National Honor Society Adviser, or committee member, Mrs. Michelle Misfeldt for more details. This event benefits the Children's Miracle Network as they support the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital

Pajama and Book Collection: As a part of the National Pajama Program to help needy individuals in our area we are collecting new pajamas - infant to adult sizes and new books for all ages as well. This is a program that Mrs. Andrea McConnell has been involved with for the past 11 years. Last year, when she approached the NHS about participating, the group was able to collect 74 pairs of pajamas and about 50 books. Who doesn't like cuddling up with a good book and comfy pajamas on a cold winter night?

Please drop off any donations of pajamas, new books, or money contributions (we do the shopping for you) to EHS. Monetary donations can also be mailed to Mrs. Barbara Proeger, NHS Adviser, Erie High School, 435 6th Ave., Erie IL 61250. Our official campaign for pajamas is Dec. 3 - 7 but there are so many great sales happening now we wanted the community to be aware of this project as they shop.

Blood Drive: NHS is hosting the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center Drive on Thurs., Dec. 27 at the Erie Methodist Wesleyan Hall from 2:45 - 6 p.m. Please remember that blood is always needed but even more so at holiday time. Please mark the date on your calendar now and watch for forthcoming information to schedule an appointment.
