7th Grade Info for November Field Trip

October 9, 2018

Greetings from Morrison Tech!

Once again we will be hosting our Middle School Engineering Technology Day and would like to invite you and your students to attend the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 sessions.

During the event, your seventh grade students will participate in a variety of hands-on activities that give them experiences with a wide array of stem disciplines such as building design, design process/prototyping, manufacturing, robotics, computer programming, and engineering.

They will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the limitations of a construction project and the key components of the foundation.

  • Work in teams to build the tallest structure possible with available materials.

  • Create a three-dimensional model and 3D print the prototype.

  • Use a common manufacturing process – injection molding – to create finished screwdrivers.

  • Operate and program a robotic arm.

  • Mix the raw ingredients of concrete and the impact of different ratios on the structural properties of the mix..

  • Perform basic tests on the concrete, including compression and slump testing.

  • Use software to design a bridge, making structural, style, and materials choices.

  • Create a bridge that meets the design requirements and has a low construction cost.

  • View a demonstration of a model bridge being broken in a testing machine.

The day starts at 8:45 a.m. with a welcome, followed by three morning breakout sessions. Students bring their own sack lunches and eat them during a break at 11:15 a.m. After lunch there are two more activities before the event concludes at 1:15 p.m.

All of the sessions are presented by Morrison Tech’s faculty and staff members who are assisted by our students. Of course, the Middle School Applied Science and Technology Days are presented at no cost to your school.

Due to overwhelming demand and more schools asking to participate, this year’s acceptance  will be based on a first come first serve basis.  Since space is limited for our activities we can accommodate a maximum of 90 students on each day.  The days for this event our listed below.  Please choose your first and second preference. We will send further information, regarding acceptance and your specific date before September 30, 2018.

We look forward to having your seventh grade students experience this hands-on learning provided by Morrison Tech!
